The General Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques has announced the much-anticipated schedule for Taraweeh prayers, also known as Special Night Prayers, during the upcoming Ramadan in 2024. This information applies to both Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah.
Combined with the schedule, the General Presidency also revealed the esteemed Imams who will lead the prayers during the holy month. The exact start date of Ramadan, expected to be either March 11th or 12th, will be confirmed on March 10th based on the sighting of the crescent moon.
Masjid al-Haram Taraweeh Schedule
Four Imams: Sheikh Bandar Baleelah, renowned for his exceptional Quran recitation; Sheikh Abdullah Juhany, celebrated for his impactful delivery; Sheikh Dr. Maher Al Muaiqly, respected for his profound spiritual knowledge; and Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, the esteemed President of the General Presidency.
Structure: Each night, a different Imam will lead Taraweeh prayers, consisting of 10 Rak’ahs followed by 3 Rak’ahs of Witr, offering a unique experience for worshippers.
The official schedule provides timings for both Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers throughout Ramadan. However, it only specifies Tahajjud prayer timings for the last ten days.
Masjid an-Nabawi Taraweeh Schedule
Six Imams: Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Baijan, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Mohsen Al-Qasim, Sheikh Ahmad Bin Talib Bin Humaid, Sheikh Dr. Salah Al-Budair, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Juhani, and Sheikh Dr. Maher Al-Muaiqly, with the last two holding the distinction of leading prayers in both Makkah and Madinah.
Structure: Similar to Masjid al-Haram, Taraweeh prayers comprise 10 Rak’ahs followed by 3 Rak’ahs of Witr, with each Imam leading on specific nights.
Global Accessibility: While those performing Umrah in Makkah during Ramadan will participate in the scheduled prayers, Muslims worldwide can witness the live broadcast from both holy cities.
