Jeddah – The custodian for the Two Holy Mosques, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais was appointed by the King Salman to be the minister of the presidency for Religious Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.
The King also appointed Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, Minister of Hajj and Umrah for be on the Board of Directors of the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.
The nominations were made by two royal decrees signed by the King in response to the decision taken by the Council of Ministers on Tuesday to segregate the President from the Authority. Each institution will remain administratively tied to the King.
The Dr. Al-Sudais previously served as the chairman of the General Presidency of the issues of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque and was named to the General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.
The General Presidency will be in charge of overseeing the affairs of the Imams, and Muezzins from the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque in addition to everything related to their religious activities like the religious community or Islamic education.
New General Authority, headed by Al-Rabiah, will operate financially and administratively independent. It will be accountable for the specialization of services, activities operation, maintenance and expansion that are associated with the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.
